„Bar Association protects lawers only“

 

The investigation recently published as to the satisfaction of the tourists should challenge to undertake another investigation – this what means Harald Fuhrmann of  Bahamas Consult. It is true that he is a German subject, but has offered properties in Nassau already nearly 25 years ago, and he describes himself , on account of the great number of trips, as a connoisseur of the local scenery of the Bahamas. In the interest of the economical development of the Bahamas, it would be worthwhile to analyse in the same way the second-important ecomomic area of the country, i.e. the finance service area and the investments.

 

According to him, the results here would be still worse as compared to the sector of tourism. As a matter of fact, such investigations would have to be carried out in such a way that the neutrality would be guaranteed 100 percent, as otherwise the result would be distorted. According to Fuhrmann, he was informed of unsupportable cases of dissatisfied investors. To the extent one could not for example abandon real estate objects, it is regretted that logically the pertinent problems could not brought before the public in order to protect himself.

 

Mr. Fuhrmann states that it is often critizised how useless disputes before the courts on

the Bahamas are when not at least it can be sure that the debtor can be at least identified at a non-existing residents´ registration system and in the last resort  also sufficient guarantees of the debtor can be accessed. Also the activities of the attorneys-of-law should be included into the investigation required sincre their efficiency and preparedness to come up to their obligations is often doubted by the foreign investors.

 

Ombudsman required

 

And though there exists a fees table – even if the same may be considered as outdated – foreigners would be often cheated. „Prices or costs increases for people of white skin“ seem to be no exemption, according to Fuhrmann. He feels that specifically attorneys-at-law are perticularly harmful to the economy of the Bahamas since experience suffered will not promote further investments or recommendations to acquaintances or friends.

 

The German adviser declares himself prepared to insert upon request his experience into the pertinent investigations and to cooperate for the elaboration of the questionaire, so Fuhrmann in a press release. Pertinent proposals Fuhrmann also expects from the Bahamas Bar Association and an answer of the question whether it could be expected to be able to cooperate, for example, at the setup of an attitude catalogue for attorneys-at-law, at a setup of a current fee table or the setup of an ombudsman position. At any rate a „new honest way for all“ within the legal system of the Bahamas would be required, as otherwise there would be the risk that around the isles of the Bahamas a wall could be erected without thinking twice, without that someone notices that, because no foreigner will go there.
